Auction System Explained

Using our auction is very straightforward.  Once registered, you will receive an email when our auction goes live. You are then able to browse freely and to bid on the available lots.  For a quick guide to using our site, please see the steps below:

Register on our site

Registering a user account with Wine Auctioneer will always be free!  Our registration form can be found at the bottom of this page.  While the process is fairly straightforward, we are always able to provide support as required.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Contact Us

Contact us directly on info@wineauctioneer.com or by calling 01738 245576 to discuss bidding on lots in our auction.

Search our auction

Our website is designed to be incredibly user-friendly.  You can choose from the search-bar if looking for something specific; or for general listings, navigate through and use product filters on our current auction.

Select a lot

When you find an interesting Lot, we highly recommend that you read the description fully and take a good look at the associated pictures to your full satisfaction.

Please Note: Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the duration and condition of previous storage - for which we may be unable to provide information or guarantee, condition of liquid is at the buyer's risk and no claim can be lodged against any spoilage of contents.

Bid on a lot

Once you are satisfied with the offered Lot, enter the maximum value you would be willing to pay for the item.  Bids will then be automatically cast to one bid-increment (based on the table below) above the next highest bidder's maximum bid, up to and including your maximum bid.  Automatic bids on your behalf will be placed only up to your maximum value when subsequent users cast bids.

Price Range Increment
£5.00 - £9.99    £1.00
£10.00 - £39.99 £3.00
£40.00 - £99.99    £5.00
£100.00 - £249.99    £10.00
£250.00 - £499.99    £25.00
£500.00 - £1,499.99    £50.00
£1,500.00 - No Limit    £100.00

Please Note: Due to new Minimum Unit Pricing legislation in Scotland, we shall be introducing starting bids of £5 PER BOTTLE of table wine and £8 PER BOTTLE of fortified wine.  Large-format bottles will feature increased starting bids respective to their size.

Please pay close attention to the Bid Confirmation notice.  This will display your bid as our system has understood your bid entry.  All bids placed and confirmed are legally binding.

Immediately upon confirmation of your bid, you will see if you are the highest bidder and if the Lot's reserve has been met.  If you are outbid, you will be automatically notified by email.  You may increase your maximum bid at any time.

How the Auction Ends

We will always clearly display the end date of the current auction on the web-footer notification bar.

Our auctions will end from 7pm GMT on the end date specified.  After this time, any bidding activity shall prolong the current auction in its entirety by a further 2 minutes.

The auction shall then close when there has been a period of two minutes of bidding inactivity.

Win a lot

You will be immediately notified by email, upon close of auction, of any Lots which you have won.  These Lots shall automatically be added to your Shopping Cart for your completion of the order.

Payment

Once items are in your Shopping Cart, you will have opportunity to specify payment type and any delivery instructions.  Payment is required immediately as per our Terms and Conditions.  Orders remaining unpaid after 3 business days shall be subject to an automatic 3% late payment surcharge.

Delivery

Upon receipt of payment, we shall deliver your items as quickly and securely as possible.  We are able to provide shipping to many countries worldwide.  Our delivery charges are viewable here.

Risk Free Shipping

Wine Auctioneer recommends that Lots won are collected in person directly from our premises in Perth, Scotland.  Should this not be possible or you prefer to have your Lots shipped, liability for both loss and damage rests with you, the purchaser.

While our team take every effort to package and dispatch orders carefully and securely, courier companies do not accept any liability for items lost or broken in transit.  To address this, Wine Auctioneer offers "Risk Free Shipping" to provide a guarantee against items lost or broken in transit; chargeable at a rate of 3% of Hammer Price & Commission, plus VAT.  Risk Free Shipping is optional and purchasers may alternatively choose to accept full liability.

Please note that Risk Free Shipping provides cover only against full breakage and item loss during transit; does not cover any loss arising from an item’s physical condition - including but not limited to, seal failures and cosmetic damage (including cosmetic damage arising from breakage of other item).

By your purchase of "Risk Free Shipping", Wine Auctioneer accepts liability for full loss or breakage in transit of your items.  For your convenience, the Risk Free Shipping option is automatically selected at the checkout stage.  If you wish to personally accept full liability, please de-select this option when completing your order.

Combining Stored Items for Delivery

We can, of course, combine multiple orders to save money on shipping costs.  To do this please complete any outstanding order selecting "Collection/Storage" and then complete the form to Ship Stored Orders.
