From the famed Bordeaux appellation of Pauillac, Chateau d'Armailhac is a 5th Growth (5eme Cru) estate in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc.

Purchased by the Rothschild family in 1934, the Chateau has historically produced under the names Mouton Baron Philippe, Mouton Baronne Philippe and Mouton d'Armailhac.

The vintages of the 1980s tended to be blends of approximately 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc; matured in oak barrels for approximately 14-16 months.
