La Rioja Alta "904" 2001 Rioja Gran Reserva 150cl
In 1890, 5 families from the north of Spain, each passionate about wines, established the Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta - The Wine Society of the Rioja Alta. A few years later, in 1904, one of these founding-members proposed the merger of his Ardanza winery with the society and thus the creation of La Rioja Alta S.A.
The "904" range is today one of LRA's flagship wines, second only to the exquisite "890" - both of which are released only in exceptional years. This wine is from the 2001 vintage, a blend of old-vine Tempranillo (90%) with Graciano (10%) which has been matured for just over 4 years in American oak barrels, re-racked every 6 months.
Large-format bottles are great for extended ageing periods due to the wine's slower rate of maturation. Indeed, this "Magnum" presents a fantastic opportunity to potentially taste a quality Rioja at mid-stages of maturity.
Please note there shall be a shipping charge for 2 bottles applied to this lot.
