Chateau Margaux "Pavillon Rouge" 1981 Margaux

"Pavillon Rouge" is the second wine from the 1st-Growth (1er-Cru) Margaux estate, Chateau Margaux.

The vineyards of Chateau Margaux are planted with approximately 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc - a ratio to which the wines roughly follow with vintage variation.  Ch. Margaux' first-wine frequently sees slightly higher portions of Cabernet Sauvignon, while the estate's 2nd, 3rd and 4th wines frequently see higher proportions of Merlot.  Maturation of between 18 to 26 months takes place in 100% new French Oak barrels.

This 1981 vintage is composed of a blend exactly mirroring the ratios planted, but from the younger vines within the estate's vineyards.
