Located in the Pauillac appellation, approximately 50km northwest of the city of Bordeaux, and ranked as one of the original four 1st Growths (1er-Cru) in the famed 1855 Classification of Medoc, Château Latour is one of the great wine estates of Bordeaux, France and the world.
While the earliest documentation of Château Latour's existence dates from 1331, their dominant presence as a wine-estate of note heralds from the early 1700s when it was acquired by Alexandre de Ségur. The Ségur family further acquired the estates of Mouton (now Ch. Mouton-Rothschild), Lafite (now Ch. Lafite-Rothschild) and Calon (now Ch. Calon-Ségur). Château Latour has been owned by the Artémis Group since 1993.
The wine is a classic left-bank Bordeaux-blend, yet is remarkable in that it is produced exclusively from grapes picked from old-vines - of approximately 60 years age - and Cabernet Sauvignon contributes over 90% of each vintage blend. Maturation takes place exclusively in new French Oak barrels for undisclosed periods of time, resulting in wines which frequently offer exceptional maturation potential.
Château Latour produce a second-wine, Les Forts De Latour; and a third-wine, Le Pauillac De Château Latour.
